Doctors appointment

All went well. Better than we expected. Aaron did great, joked around a lot. He had a ultrasound yesterday, so we won't find out those results until monday and then see the doc on a annual basis-yeah. No surgery. Definite answered prayer!

While the husbands away...

I don't know why but when Joe is out of town I get so much done. He went up to a cubs game with his friend Brad Mason. They got free tickets, great seats. Lucky ducks.
I re arranged the boys room. We now no longer have bunk beds, but two beds in their room. I painted the closet and took the doors off and put Andrews dresser inside. While at wal mart today I found (on clearance-my heart rejoiced!) a boys bedding line with madras plaid and everything that matched it. So I got canvas totes for the closet and bedding. I made a valance from a set of shams too! Andrew even got one of those tents for the bed. He is so stoked about it."I am so lucky Mom" "Don't tell Dad where I am tonight". Aaron even likes it. Now to keep it clean.
After I got the kids to bed I finished the laundry(a day late I might add) and cleaned the carpets. They were quite gross. Maybe they will stay semi clean for a few days before the lovely dark spots reappear. Could be worse.
BTW I cleaned the office out this morning! hee hee

Ouch!

I got my crown yesterday, I wish it was on my head and not on my tooth. I also had a cavity filled at the same time. It has been a while since I have had dental work done. Ouch. It still hurts today, hurts the pocketbook too. It could be worse, at least we have dental insurance, and I still have teeth!
Joe's big brother gave us a weight set when they moved so we have been lifting on that. Ouch, sore muscles. I am sure we will be buff the next time you see us Reeds!
On a more serious note, please pray for our friends the Watts. Their new baby girl, Jessa, they are adopting from China was moved to an orphanage yesterday and she is very sad. She has always lived with a foster family and knows nothing else, she is 16months old, I think. How sad for Jessa and for the Watts too.
Aaron's appointment is tomorrow too.

Beautiful Weekend/ Busy Week

1. 3 Soccer games- this is our first foray into travel soccer. Aaron's team lost 2 and tied 1 this weekend. Competition was much stiffer than rec. Fun to watch though. I never thought I would like soccer as much as I do. Ann and Aandrew's seasons don't start until after labor day. Amy isn't playing, it went co ed for her age group and she opted not to play with the boys.

2. Family reunion in Bremen- My Dads family is fun to be with. The reunion is at my cousins house who has a pool and just a beautiful house for entertaining. They are always very gracious to let us have it there. The kids love it, and get to play with their cousins. Sad too though, the economy is so much more bleek up there. With factories closing, so many of my relatives are losing jobs they have had for 20-30 years. One cousin told me of marital trouble- made my heart sad. We surprised friends of ours for a quick visit on the way home. Always nice to see the Masons.

3. Joe is at Prison playing basketball with the inmates today. He sacrifices a Sunday a month for their pleasure(he loves to play too ;) It is a good ministry and I am thankful he listened and obeyed when God nudged at his heart to start this. It is as beneficial to the players from our church as those at the prison! "A grateful heart is good medicine" to see it in action is good for anyone.

4. First week of school went well. I am still not quiet into the swing of things yet. Everyone loves their teachers, we are blessed with a good school. Andrew said today that he doesn't ever want to move because he wants his kids to go to Carey Ridge Elementary. So cute. Amy is adjusting to middle school.

5.I colored my hair dark. I would say "back" to my original color, but it has gotten darker after each pregnancy. Needless to say it is darker than it ever was before. I am tired of coloring it. My husband always liked it lighter(I guess it was light when we met 20 years ago), but I didn't consult him. I am trying to simplify. Don't be shocked when you see me. :)

6. Busy week ahead. Soccer practices, baseball try-outs, doctor appointment, I get a crown(I wish it was on my head and not on my tooth), I go back to work after a 3 week break :(

Please pray for Aaron's doctors appointment, it is of a sensitive matter, but could be serious.

Quote of the Day

This was actually on Sunday. We went to the Indiana State Fair, showed the kids all of the animals and such. We were "petting" a huge steer, when Andrew asked if it was a dairy cow. I answered "No". He said " What is it for if it doesn't give us milk?" I answered " hamburgers, steaks, roasts." Annie quickly said" Mom quiet, he will hear you." meaning the steer of course.

Things I loved about Costa Rica

It seems my computer does not like long blogs, so I am doing a bunch of small ones.

1. The landscape- the mountains, flowers,trees, rainforest,etc were just magnificent. I would be working on the project and look up to see us surrounded by mountains and just thank God for His creation.
2. The weather- The weather was in the 70's everyday. It was their winter (rainy) season while we were there. It rained most afternoons, but not usually for long. The sun was hot and strong, but there was always a breeze and we all wore lots of sunscreen. It got down in the high 60's at night. Perfect.
3. The people- most people we came in contact with at the project were kind and had beautiful smiles. They were patient with us and truly appreciated us. The loved God with a Faith I have never seen before.
4. Music- I fell in love with their music and loved worshipping with them. They sent home a CD with us, I love it.
5. Tico time- the people of Costa Rica are known as Tico's. We are Gringos. Ticos are generally 15 minutes late for everything and very laid back- I fit right in.
6.Food- I never thought I would like beans and rice for 3 meals a day, but I did. The food was really good. Their fruits (which we can't get here) were really yummy. I loved their tea(or te) every morning too.
7. Amy would say "chike blak's" a cookie she ate everyday at break at the work site. We brought some home for her small group at church.

Things I love about the USA

1. Noise ordinances- Costa Rica is SOO loud, all night long. Dogs bark all night, car alarms etc. very inconsiderate if you ask me.
2. Emissions laws- The car exhaust was horrible, almost sickening. With gas at $8 a gallon there, you would think there wouldn't be many cars, but there are. Lots of buses, and motorcycles too.
3. Chocolate- No one does rich desserts like we do. No Hershey bars even(or hersheyo if you use my spanglish:)
4. English language- I have a new understanding for non English speaking persons- so hard. I am so lame too, why did I take French? When I go back I want to know more Spanish. My spanglish just didn't cut it.
5.Flushing toilet paper- The septic system in Costa Rica does not allow toilet paper, you must throw it in the trash. Hard habit to break- enough said.
6. Right now I love the Olympics- so much fun to watch. I love amateur sports in general, so this is just great for me. These kids work so hard.
7. Safety- a general feeling a safety on the streets especially. We couldn't travel even to the store down the street without a male escort. Regulations on the water slides and so forth were lacking as well. I take these regulations for granted so much in the US.
