The last city we stopped at was Ketchikan. We loved each city, but this city is the most fun to say. Instead of going on any excursions we picked up a map and did our own walking tour. It is a hilly city, and it was hot that day. Ketchikan is the "salmon capital of the world", but the salmon don't run until the end of the month. It is really pretty and we had a lot of fun walking. Remember we are tourist geeks, so we were reading our book and a brochure as we were walking.
We got chocolate/ raspberry fudge at a shop.(I want to replicate the recipe, it was so good!) I ate it while Joe tried to talk the girl into scalping some tickets for the lumberjack show. Residents get them for $5. and we would have had to pay $38. No luck though, each resident gets a kick back for tourism. We were just kidding her, but she thought about it for a minute.
We had some crab at a vendor on the street, yummy. It was friday night and all the stores and vendors, restaurants included, close at 5pm. Shocking since the cruise ships were all docked there.
We headed back to the ship. There was a magic show and an impersonator. They were pretty good, entertaining. At 11pm there was a "late night dessert presentation" Yummo- chocolate fountains and all different kinds of desserts. I just got a plate of strawberries and drizzled chocolate on it. (the creme brulee on another nights dinner menu was delicious)Glad we had walked so much.
The next night was the farewell reception with the company, pretty boring for the wives. So a group of us got a drink(I actually got one this time. It had rum in it, so I liked it) and headed for a show before dinner. It was fun and I don't really think anyone missed us for that hour. They are all networking and talking about work.
The rest of the cruise back to Vancouver was uneventful. Joe and Heath and the CEO of the company and a friend had a ping pong battle and Joe played some 2 on 2. He gets bored easy, can't sit still and read for too long.
As we left the ship the last morning we were delayed and got a late start due to the ship and our luggage mishap(we all got our own, but it was a mess) There are 2 customs stops you have to take when in the Vancouver airport, so needless to say it was rushed. We were the last 2 to board. They were announcing "Bennett party of 2 last call" ugh.
We got home at 1030pm. We were happy to see the kids and are so grateful to my parents for watching the kids for the week.
Next trip..............San Francisco 2010!
